Jet Skiing in the Turks and Caicos Islands

Jet Skiing in Turks and Caicos

Water sports are a way of life in Turks and Caicos, and jet skiing is one of the most popular ocean activities. A jet ski gives you the power and speed to cruise the waves and explore hidden coves and beaches, uninhabited cays, and narrow inlets that are teeming with wildlife. Jet skiing in Turks and Caicos is a great way to spend a fun day out with the whole family or take some quality time for yourself skimming across the water and taking in incredible views of the coastlines.

Long Bay Beach Water Conditions

Long Bay Beach is one of the most popular spots to go jet skiing in Providenciales. This is because there are no limitations on jet skis in the bay and the water conditions are excellent. Long Bay Beach typically has wind conditions around 10 miles (16km) per hour or less, so the water is calm with little to no large swells. This makes it easy to jet across the surface smoothly. The water is also shallow close to shore, so you can mount and dismount your jet ski right off the beach.

Can You Have Jet Skis Dropped Off at a Private Villa?

Most jet ski rental companies in the Long Bay Beach area can drop off your jet ski right in front of your private beachfront villa. At Triton Luxury Villa, your personal concierge can arrange jet ski rentals for you any time during your stay and have them dropped off on the beach in front of the villa. You can rent jet skis for anywhere from 30 minutes up to a full day and most rentals include life jackets and a full tank of gas. You can opt for a non-guided rental if you want to rip up the waves on your own or a guided jet ski tour to see interesting sights around Providenciales.

Jet Ski Tour of La Famille Express

If you’re looking for an interesting jet ski tour close to Long Bay Beach, the La Famille Express shipwreck is just two miles offshore and within sight of Triton Villa. This massive cargo ship was once part of the Russian naval fleet under the name Fort Shevchenko and later became a Caribbean freighter ship under the name La Famille Express. The ship was grounded on a shallow reef during Hurricane Frances in 2004, and it has rested there ever since. You can’t actually climb onboard the ship for safety reasons, but a jet ski will allow you to tour the perimeter and see it up close.

What Can You See on a Jet Ski Tour?

Besides the La Famille Express shipwreck, there are many other fascinating sights you can see on a jet ski tour leaving from Long Bay Beach. These are just a few popular jet ski touring spots:

  • West Harbour Bluff

Located on the southwest point of Providenciales, this scenic area is worth a visit for its towering cliffs, secluded beach and 200-year-old rock carvings left by sailors who were shipwrecked and stranded on the island. This is also a great spot for bird spotting.

  • Dellis Cay

Dellis Cay is part of a string of cays that lie between Provo and North Caicos. Completely uninhabited, it has an absolutely spectacular beach that is renowned as a prime seashell gathering destination. Along the south coast of the cay there are interesting wetlands with mangroves.

  • Turtle Rock

Close to West Harbour Bluff, Turtle Rock is a 200-foot (65m) wide limestone rock that is split by a narrow channel. It has interesting formations that create underwater caves, which makes it a great place for marine life to gather and an excellent snorkelling spot. Visitors can catch glimpses of crabs, coral, tropical fish and sea stars.

Long Bay Beach is a prime destination for horseback riding because the beach is long and wide and the water is shallow, so the horses can meander across the sand and wade through the gentle waves. The best time to go horseback riding is in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not too hot.

Marinas in Turks and Caicos

If you’re planning on visiting Turks and Caicos via boat, Providenciales is the best place to dock your vessel because there are multiple marinas around the island. These are the best marinas where you can dock, store and service your boat.

  • Blue Haven Marina

Located on the northeastern side of Providenciales in the Leeward region, Blue Haven Marina is a full-service luxury marina with everything a yacht owner could ask for. The marina has 100 slips with floating docks that can house vessels up to 220 feet and another area with sheltered slips for smaller vessels. Boat owners have access to water and power utilities, a fuel station, customs and immigration services, restaurants, a convenience store, and a concierge who can arrange car rentals to your villa and other destinations around the island.

  • Turtle Cove Marina

Turtle Cove Marina is the largest and oldest marina in Providenciales. It is located in a sheltered bay on the north coast of the island and is accessed by an inlet. There are 100 slips here including 65 deep water slips that are available for short and long-term rental. The marina has a wide array of amenities including a fuel station, water, and power utilities, bars and restaurants, a medical clinic, a fishing and tackle shop, and a car rental service. Another draw is the boat ramp for trailer launching with parking for trailers nearby.

  • Caicos Marina & Boatyard

Caicos Marina sits on the southern shore of Providenciales in the Long Bay Beach area just a short drive from Triton Luxury Villa. If your vessel is in need of servicing or repairs, this is the place to go because they have certified technicians who can do hull repair, restorations, painting, and more. There is also a shop where you can buy parts and supplies. The marina offers dockage and short-term and long-term storage with an indoor area that can house vessels up to 35 feet.

How Long Does it Take to go from Miami to Turks and Caicos by Boat?

Map Turks and Caicos 1 1
Dock Your Yacht in Turks and Caicos 32

Turks and Caicos is about 550 miles southeast of Miami, so the duration of the boat trip really depends on the type of vessel you are traveling on, the speed you are traveling, and the wind and water conditions.

Triton Villa Is the Ideal Private Holiday Home for Boat Enthusiasts

While some boat owners don’t mind sleeping onboard their vessel while it’s docked in the marina, many more choose to rent a holiday home so they can stretch their legs and enjoy a bit of space and seclusion on land. Triton Luxury Villa is the perfect accommodation for boat owners visiting Turks and Caicos because the villa is just a short drive to some of Providenciales’ best marinas including Caicos Marina, Blue Haven Marina, and Turtle Cove Marina. Unlike at a marina, guests of Triton will have direct access to a beautiful beach as well as seven spacious and chic bedrooms, two swimming pools, a hot tub, and an outdoor movie theater with a fire pit.

Kiteboarding on Long Bay Beach

Kiteboarding is becoming increasingly popular in Turks and Caicos and around the world, and it’s easy to see why. This exhilarating water sport involves skimming across the water at high speeds propelled by just a kite, a board, and the wind. If you’re looking to ride the waves in the Turks and Caicos, Long Bay Beach is the best kiteboarding spot for beginners and advanced kiteboarders alike.

What is Kiteboarding?

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Kiteboarding-Triton-Villa-Blog-Photo-1.jpg

Most people agree that modern kiteboarding began in the 1980s when the Lagaignoux brothers designed an inflatable kite that was meant to pull people across the water. Over the years, the kites and equipment have evolved into what we see today, which is essentially a large kite with bars attached to lines for steering, a harness that wraps around the waist, and a board for gliding across the water.

Where to Kiteboard in Turks and Caicos

The island of Providenciales is the most popular place for kiteboarding in Turks and Caicos because it has excellent wind and water conditions. However, you can also find some great areas to kiteboard off the coasts of North Caicos, Middle Caicos, and South Caicos.

Kiteboarding Lessons

The majority of kiteboarding schools in Turks and Caicos are located on Long Bay Beach and they employ instructors certified by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO). A typical lesson lasts anywhere from one to three hours and includes equipment rental. Beginners will learn the basics, while advanced riders can set off on excursions to little-known kiteboarding destinations and learn new tricks.

Kiteboarding vs Kitesurfing

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Kiteboarding-Triton-Villa-Blog-Photo-2.jpg

Kiteboarding and kitesurfing are two different names for the same sport. Generally speaking, North Americans tend to use the term kiteboarding, while Europeans prefer the term kitesurfing.

What Gear do You Need to Kiteboard?

There are three essential pieces of gear you need to kiteboard: a kite, a board, and a harness. Any kiteboarding school in Turks and Caicos can set you up with equipment that is suitable for your body type and skill level. Inflatable kites are the most common and they include a steering bar attached by lines and a harness. Most kiteboarders in Turks and Caicos also use twin-tip boards with foot straps.

The Best Kiteboarding Spots in Turks and Caicos

Long Bay Beach on Providenciales is by far the best place to kiteboard in Turks and Caicos because it is suitable for all levels. Experienced riders can also try Grace Bay, Leeward Beach, and the barrier reef on the north side of Providenciales. Cedar Point and Wild Cow Run are popular kiteboarding spots in Middle Caicos. East Bay Beach on South Caicos also offers good wind conditions, as does Whitby Beach on North Caicos.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Kiteboarding-Triton-Villa-Blog-Photo-3.jpg

Turks and Caicos Tides

Turks and Caicos experiences easterly trade winds most months, which makes it a great year-round kiteboarding destination. Under normal conditions, the tides do not change drastically, meaning you know what to expect on any given day out on the water.

Benefits of Kitesurfing

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Kiteboarding-Triton-Villa-Blog-Photo-4.jpg

Kiting offers many benefits for the body and mind. Not only does it burn calories and tone the entire body, but it can also improve balance and coordination and help relieve stress by releasing endorphins. In addition, there is a large global kiteboarding community, so it is easy to meet new people wherever you kiteboard.

Why is Long Bay Beach Great for Kiteboarding?

Long Bay Beach is ideal for kiteboarding because the winds are consistent and it has clear, shallow water with a soft, sandy bottom. The shallow depth makes it easy to stand up if you fall down, which is great for beginners. Advanced riders love that the area is not crowded and there are few boats, so long, uninterrupted rides are possible. Long Bay Beach also has gorgeous rental villas like Triton Luxury Villa, which is just steps from the water, making it a kiteboarder’s dream accommodation.

Real Estate on Long Bay Beach : 101

With a beautiful stretch of pristine white sand, calm turquoise waters and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s no wonder that Long Bay Beach is such a popular spot to invest in property. Turks and Caicos is currently experiencing a very strong real estate market, and Long Bay Beach real estate, in particular, is highly sought after. Whether you’re looking to purchase a finished beachfront villa or home or buy a piece of land and build your dream home, there are plenty of real estate opportunities in the Long Bay Beach area.

Turks and Caicos Real Estate

Turks and Caicos consists of 40 islands, of which eight are inhabited. These include Providenciales, Salt Cay, Grand Turk, North Caicos, South Caicos, East Caicos, West Caicos and Middle Caicos. The island of Providenciales is the most developed island in Turks and Caicos and this is where you’ll find the vast majority of real estate opportunities. That being said, the lesser developed islands also have vacant plots of land available as well as residential properties.

Triton’s Structural Design, Pools, and Solar Power

Triton Luxury Villa is a prime example of a high-end luxury vacation property along Long Bay Beach. This lavish seven-bedroom holiday home features modern tropical architecture and design with bright open spaces, eco-friendly solar panels, expansive landscaped grounds, and two swimming pools including an ocean-facing glass-fronted main pool and an infinity-edge hot tub and pool. Additional facilities include an outdoor cinema with a fire pit, breezy cabanas, a gym, a tennis court, and a bocce ball court.

Buying Real Estate in Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory that does not place restrictions on foreigners owning property. Individuals can purchase vacant plots of land as well as finished villas, single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses, duplexes, and commercial properties. However, foreign corporations and trusts cannot own property in Turks and Caicos.

Buying a Beachfront Home on Long Bay Beach

Long Bay Beach is the ideal area to buy a beachfront home because it has not been as intensively developed as other areas on Providenciales such as Grace Bay. Therefore, you can still find many oceanfront properties and plots of land. Moreover, Long Bay Beach is the perfect locale for a family home or vacation property because it features a beautiful three-mile stretch of white sand, calm shallow waters, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as kiteboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling.

Building a Home in Turks and Caicos

If you’re planning on building a home in Turks and Caicos, there are a few steps you will need to take. First, you will need to acquire planning permission and a building permit. Once you have those, you can begin working with an architect and project manager to construct your home or villa. When the project is completed you will need to have your home inspected and obtain an Occupancy Certificate before you can connect the utilities and move in.

How Much Does a Luxury Beachfront Home Cost in Turks and Caicos?

The price of a property in Turks and Caicos varies depending on a number of factors including the location, size of the land, and previous developments. Like anywhere in the world, beachfront property is more expensive than inland property. Real estate in Providenciales is typically more expensive than real estate on the other islands. However, no matter which island you decide to build on, you will have to pay taxes and fees including a stamp duty to the government that ranges from 0% (for properties under $25,000) to 10%. In addition, real estate agent fees range from 6% to 10%.

Luxury Destination Wedding in Turks and Caicos

After documenting our first wedding at Triton in summer 2017, Ileana from Attimi Photography was called back for the wedding of Dana and Mark. This fun-loving couple wanted their wedding to be all about the people. Beyond tying the knot, their goal was for everyone to simply have a good time—and it’s safe to say their mission was accomplished.

Dana and Mark thought outside the box for their Turks & Caicos wedding at Triton, casually greeting their guests at the door in T-shirts and shorts. After spending some time with their guests, they retreated back to their dressing rooms and emerged in wedding attire, looking absolutely stunning and ready to say ‘I do.”

Most couples who get married in the Turks & Caicos tend to get married on the beach. Dana and Mark opted for a beach view without the sand, saying their vows by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean on Long Bay Beach. The couple hosted the reception dinner inside the villa, then moved the party back outside for live music and dancing.
Dana and Mark did their wedding their way, and they did not disappoint. It was a gorgeous evening, and we’re so pleased they chose Triton to host their wedding. Thinking of getting married in the Turks & Caicos and looking for a private beachfront wedding venue? Get in touch with us!

Puppies Await You in Turks & Caicos

World-class beaches. The clearest, bluest waters you’ve ever seen. Warm, sunny weather most of the year. And puppies—a whole lot of them.

Yes, one of the most beautiful islands in the world is also home to Potcake Place—an animal shelter that encourages visitors to take their puppies out for walks during the day, and in many cases, to adopt one. “Potcake” is the name given to the mixed-breed dogs found throughout the Turks & Caicos and the Bahamas, known for their cocked ears and curly tails.

Every year, about 600 potcakes are adopted from Potcake Place, with potcakes being relocated to Dallas, Boston, Los Angeles, Toronto, and dozens of other places.. The volunteers at the dog rescue charity aim to socialize the potcakes by allowing visitors to take the pups for walks. And as you can imagine, it’s become quite a popular activity on the list of things to do in Turks & Caicos.

During the busy season, it’s not unusual to see a line of people waiting for the charity to open its doors so they can get their hands on a puppy for the morning. And it’s a win-win for everyone involved. The volunteers get a helping hand, the pups get a few hours out on the town with new friends, and YOU get to spend some precious time with a puppy… who you just might end up taking home with you.

IF YOU GO

Potcake Place is located in the Saltmills Plaza in Grace Bay. Hours of operation are 10 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. Puppies are allowed out for two hours at a time with walks ending by 1 pm. You can contact Potcake Place at 649-231-1010, or visit their website to learn more or donate.

Destination Weddings in Turks and Caicos

Photography by Attimi Photography

Triton is more than just a luxury rental home. Our seven-bedroom beachfront villa, tucked behind the pristine sand dunes of Long Bay Beach, also makes an incredible setting for two people to exchange their wedding vows, whether by the infinity pool facing the sea or along the shore with your toes in the sand.

We were honored to host the wedding of Margo and Mitch —a fun, intimate, and stylish affair on the beach in front of Triton with the pastel blues of the ocean as a backdrop. The couple invited about 40 of their closest friends and family to be part of their day.

Margo and Mitch exchanged their vows along the shores of Long Bay Beach with a Buddhist monk as their officiant. After the ceremony, they held a reception at the villa with the living area transformed into a reception hall—with no detail overlooked, from the mimosa to flowers floating in vases filled with water, to the sea glass sprinkled over the table cloths. The party continued outdoors by the pool following dinner, with local DJ Dayoh providing the music to match the mood.

The wedding of Margo and Mitch was a simply stunning affair, and we were thrilled to be chosen as the venue for such a special day in their lives.

Are you planning to get married in the Turks & Caicos and not sure where to host your wedding? We’d love to help. Let’s start planning. Get in touch with us to book Triton for one of the most memorable days of your life.

Conch in the Turks and Caicos

No trip to the Turks and Caicos is complete without familiarizing yourself with the national symbol and local delicacy that is conch (pronounced KONK) — a sea snail that not only appears on the Turks and Caicos flag, but can also be prepared and eaten a number of ways. It’s also the country’s No. 1 export.

The particular type of conch that’s found and celebrated in the Turks and Caicos—the Queen conch—is found naturally in the Atlantic Ocean, from Florida all the way down to the coast of Brazil. And in TCI, it’s wildly popular as local fare—so popular that the country has dedicated an annual festival to marine snail, known as the Conch Festival, where local restaurants prepare their best conch dishes for visitors to try.

The number of ways to prepare conch is virtually endless. There’s conch salad, conch fritters, cracked conch, conch chowder and so much more. You’d be hardpressed to find a restaurant in the Turks and Caicos that doesn’t serve conch in some form

Be aware, if you find a conch in the ocean, it’s best to leave it be. Remember, there’s a living creature inside that beautiful shell. However, Turks and Caicos law allows visitors to take up to three (empty) conch shells back home with you.

But most importantly, make sure you don’t leave the islands without at least trying our famous sea snail for yourself. Indeed, you haven’t truly experienced TCI unless you’ve eaten conch. Here are some of our top restaurants for conch dishes:
